- Medium-weight fabric such as cotton lawn, muslin, or quilting cotton — 5" squares work great
- Fabric scissors or rotary cutter with mat
- Pinking shears
- Marking tool (chalk, fabric pen, or tailor's pencil)
- Ruler or measuring tape
- Liquid seam sealant
- Sewing pins or clips
- Iron and ironing surface
- Turning tool, such as a chopstick, knitting needle, or bodkin
- Basting tape or temporary fabric glue (optional)
- Seam gauge (optional)
- Hand-sewing needle and thread (optional)
- Your choice of closure: sew-on snap fasteners (3/16" / 5mm or smaller), 1/4" hook and loop tape, or plastic snap fasteners
